National Centre for Early Music Wedding

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Danni and Sam in St Lawrence’s Church (which happens to be the largest church in York).

They pulled off a delightful wedding surrounded by a large wedding party that suited the epic church perfectly.

I started by meeting Danni in the morning to catch a few shots of the preparations and then joined Sam and his groomsmen as they made their way to the church. The whole day had a fun alternative twist with a purple flare featuring in most of the outfits worn by the couple and their guests. These would later be paired with a set of rock and roll tunes on the dance floor but that is all still to come…

After the ceremony, I captured some delightful mingling moments outside of the church as the crowds of family and friends headed to The National Centre for Early Music, which was but a short stroll down the road passing through a section of York’s grand walls.

Guests arrived to glasses of bubbles and big hugs all round! After a bit of time to settle in, Danni, Sam and I headed out into the sun to capture a few pre-arranged group shots with their loved ones. After these we had the opportunity to capture a short portrait session.

I really enjoyed the tranquility of the garden’s around the venue, the daffodils were in full bloom and the sunbeams were the perfect setting for some playful portraits and many giggles were had.

The newlyweds began the meal in the equally spectacular Grade I listed medieval church of St Margaret which sits within the grounds of the NCEM. Dotted around the slab stone floor were candle holders blazing away which fitted the gothic twist to the day very well.

After toasts and tears from many family and friends, the floor was cleared for the party to begin. It is safe to say: the bar for partying was set high by the rock n’ roll aesthetic and the guests did not disappoint!

With all the action of the dance floor, I spent lots of my time catching the grooves and moves but still found a quick moment within the heat of the party to capture a dramatically lit portrait of the happy couple that I felt really matched the gothic architecture of the church’s exterior.
